Mobile Data Center Definition and Advantages
Industry Trends News, 2021.5.26
A mobile data center is a type of data center that is designed and packaged in a mobile facility, usually in 20- or 40-foot shipping container. It integrated all the data center infrastructures- including cooling, power management, cabinets, security, and monitoring inside the mobile 'box' and it features portable, modular and self-contained. It is also named as 'container data center' or 'modular data center'.
Mobile data centers have become a trend in the data center field in recent years due to the major advantages they have: energy efficiency, small footprint, short duration of implementation, mobility and relatively low cost. It has been widely used in applications such as smart campus, hospitals, disaster recovery operations, police, military and rescue operations and so on.
Advantages of the mobile data center:
Energy efficiency: Compact size of a container data center, advanced cooling technology help reduced cooling efficiency thus reduced the electrical energy costs.
Short duration of implementation: Compared with a traditional room-type data center with an average implementation duration of 3-6 months, MDC can be delivered in between a month and up to 3 months, based on its complexity and size.
Cost-effective: Data center builders face high costs of electricity and real estate, mobile data centers can save cost as they can be placed on roofs, parking lots, etc.
The growing importance of edge of network data centers boosts the mobile data center market because these solutions answer many of the requirements of an edge data center: quick deployment, repeatable and scalability.
Kstar has ample experience in setting up customized mobile Data Centers. From the container's dimensions to the IT and electrical density, the cooling and power backup technologies, physical and fire security or remote monitoring - all these are tailored to each client's unique needs.
Kstar Mobile Data Centers has fully enclosed design and compliance with IP55 and can be placed outdoor. These Data Center solutions feature innovative cooling solutions, such as hot & cold aisle containment, in-row cooling, and patent fans. Cooling is maximized through the efficient use of indoor and outdoor cooling units. Using the remote monitoring platform, they can realize unattended operation and minimize the operation and maintenance costs.
